So we live in this huge dirty city. Its covered in graffiti, littered with trash, and you constantly have to watch where you step because you might step in dog poop. But then you get pictures like this... wow!

Storm Watch!

Not only was last night our Second Wedding Anniversary but it was also the biggest thunder and lightening storm that we have ever been in. The lightening bolts seemed like they were striking right outside of our house. In fact, they might have been. One struck and immediately all of the lights went out. Not just our block... the entire city. Darkness. It was really fun to see everyone come out to their balcony to watch the storm and also shine their flashlights at each other. We had the brightest flashlight so we won the flashlight war.

I met a guy that is getting into rock climbing and repelling. Here we are rappelling out of a tree. Ok it's not a rock or anything like a rock but it was good fun.

Last week we were invited to go to one of our friend’s village on the beach near the base of Mount Olympus. We took about a hour ride in the nicest, quietest train you could imagine. We had a great visit and hope that we can go back later on in the summer. This was a real treat. It actually felt like we were in “Greece”. You know the Greece you see in pictures. Quiet streets. Village cafes with overgrown vines. People sitting around because it is too nice of a day to work. Well back to the big, dirty, over populated, graffiti covered, insane driving city we call home. We love it here… but it is nice to sit on the beach and soak in the sun.
Ok... so this is a GYRO. (YERO)
So they cut off portions of meat from this huge rotisserie of pork or chicken. Pile it on to a freshly cooked pita and then add onion, fresh tomatoes, french fries, ketchup and mustard. Just look at it. A heart attack waiting to happen. Oh, and when you eat it you have to make sure that you hold it away from your body because it WILL drip grease. It really is good… like really good, your stomach hurts afterward good. Not from being full (although you will be), but from all of the fat and goodness that you just consumed. So… I think I will go eat some vegetables now.
OOOH... old rocks.
Greg giving a lesson in archeology... notice he has a book in his hand (what a cheater). He is pointing out that this arch is constructed (and reconstructed) without using any kind of cement to hold it together. He is pointing to the middle stone is first held up by posts and then all of the other stones would be added to the arch. The middle stone is shaped in such a way that it holds the entire arch together. This stone is called the "key-stone" or also know as the "cap-stone". Sound familiar?
Run run away!!!
Waddup!!!
Summer and Tait representing. Graffiti here is all over the place, although it is rare to find this much of it in one place. This week we had the opportunity to host a group of college students from Alabama here in the city. They were here on a cultural exchange program with their school. We still have a few more days with them and are really excited to see what is going to happen while they are here.
